A few words about the Aynsley Lister Band

Now then Trowerheads! You have to say that the Aynsley Lister Band were fantastic! They certainly created a few headlines of their own as the ‘warm-up’ act for the Trower band on the May 2008 UK tour.

Aynsley and his band were probably not well known to Robin Trower fans before this tour but you can guarantee the Lister band certainly won many fans over during their 18-date residency on the road with Robin.

What do you think Trower Fans? Your comments please .

Showcasing material from Aynsley’s recent ‘Upside Down’ album, their eclectic set of bluesy love songs and ballsy rockers kept the crowds on this tour more than happy!

Alternating between three different guitars during the set, band leader Aynsley belted out the words too with Jo Nichols on bass and Richard Spooner on drums. The set highlights included “Falling down”, “With me tonight” and ‘Balls of Steel”.

If, for any reason, you have never heard of or seen this band before, the strong advice is check them out. You won’t be disappointed!

Check out the band’s website and their myspace page [where you will also find an excellent demo version of the unrecorded version of the song “Soul” as featured on the tour].

Cue Aynsley. The band tore into their opener ‘Falling Down’ with customary gusto. The set, a much rockier affair tonight, was somewhat curtailed albeit we were treated to two knock-out blows.

To the head, Aynsley’s killer tune ‘With me tonight’. I defy any Trower fan not to fall in love with its fabulous construction of light, shade and ‘a-chord-sequence-to-die-for’. What a number, my personal Lister set favourite.

To the heart, a tune called ‘Angel O’ Mine’, tonight making a rare appearance on this tour. Great stuff!

Aynsley Lister gets to play Master Blaster first. His outstanding highlight of the night is an exquisite, impromptu Prince cover. ‘Purple Rain’ is dedicated to Laurie and Guy for their sterling, sound stewardship of the Lister band over the 18-show tour. The extended middle section shuts the crowd up with its punctuated patches of silence. Absolutely brilliant!
